Livestock and Equine Water Screen

$549.00

Is this water safe for horses, cattle, sheep, or poultry?

For bore, dam, creek, or trough water used for livestock or horses. No regulatory monitoring of stock water applies in Australia — quality is determined entirely by the source and its management. This kit tests the parameters that affect animal health, voluntary water intake, and production performance, and returns results compared against ANZECC/ARMCANZ 2000 livestock drinking water guidelines.

Horses are particularly sensitive to water palatability. Elevated iron, salinity, or sulfur will reduce voluntary intake before clinical signs appear. This kit tests a single water source. If you need to assess bore, tank, and dam on the same property, the 3-Point Property Audit covers all three in one submission.

What's tested

  • Microbiology — E. coli (CFU/100mL), Thermotolerant Coliforms (CFU/100mL).

  • Nitrate, nutrients & fluoride — Nitrate, Nitrite, NOx (as N), Ammonia. Elevated nitrate causes methemoglobinemia in cattle and sheep; nitrite is more acutely toxic. Fluoride — chronic elevated fluoride causes dental fluorosis in horses and cattle. Geological groundwater in parts of Australia significantly exceeds safe stock thresholds.

  • Water chemistry — Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Chloride, Sulfate, Bicarbonate Alkalinity, Ammonia (as N).

  • Metals & trace elements — Arsenic, Lead, Copper, Zinc, Iron, Manganese, Mercury, Barium, Beryllium, Cobalt, Cadmium, Chromium, Nickel, Silver.

  • Other parameters — pH, Turbidity.

Benchmarks applied

Results are compared against ANZECC/ARMCANZ 2000 Chapter 4.3 — livestock drinking water quality guidelines.

What's included

  • Sampling kit with laboratory-grade bottles and collection instructions

  • Prepaid Express Post return bag

  • NATA-accredited laboratory analysis

  • Plain-English PDF results report with all parameters, measured values, detection limits, and guideline comparisons

  • NATA-endorsed certificate of analysis

Results within 5–7 business days of laboratory receipt. All prices exclusive of GST.

⚠️ Microbiology samples — dispatch timing E. coli and Thermotolerant Coliform analysis requires your sample to reach the laboratory within 24 hours of collection. Collect and post on a Monday or Tuesday only using the included Express Post return box. Customers in remote or rural locations should note that transit times may exceed 24 hours — in this case microbiology results are reported as indicative rather than NATA-certified. All chemistry and other parameters are unaffected by transit time.
