The Science Behind Safe Water Lab
The Catalyst
As an Australian Environmental Scientist and Engineer — with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and Master of Environmental Engineering from the University of Melbourne — I have spent 19 years working in contaminated land assessment, remediation, and water quality across large-scale environmental projects. However, the motivation for Safe Water Lab began at home.
When my family started growing, I wanted to know exactly what was in the water coming out of our kitchen tap. I was particularly concerned about heavy metals leaching from home plumbing and the presence of PFAS ("forever chemicals"). When I looked for data, I discovered that our local water authority at the time, simply did not test for PFAS. To get the answers I needed for my own family, I had to use my professional access to conduct my own analysis.
The Complexity Problem
Because of my background, I knew exactly which NATA-accredited commercial labs to use and how to order the analysis. But navigating that process reinforced how difficult it is for the general public to do the same.
Interfacing with analytical laboratories is highly complex. Commercial labs are built for industry, not for families. They require you to navigate technical "Chain of Custody" forms, specify exact chemical lab codes, and understand reporting limits. Unless you are an environmental professional, getting a laboratory-grade water test is a significant logistical barrier.
Bridging the Gap
I founded Safe Water Lab to remove those barriers. My goal was to take the professional testing suites available to scientists and consultants and make them accessible to every Australian household.
We handle the complex laboratory interface. Drawing on nearly two decades of experience specifying analytical programs for contaminated site investigations, I've structured the most comprehensive consumer testing kits available — combining complex contaminant classes from heavy metals and volatile organic compounds to emerging chemicals like PFAS into source-specific, all-in-one testing kits. You simply fill the bottles and drop them in the mail. We manage the laboratory coordination and translate the raw analytical data into a clear, professional report benchmarked against Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
The Independent Promise
We have a strict no-conflict-of-interest policy. We are an Australian-owned independent testing service — we do not sell filters, softeners, or treatment systems.
Whether you are on city mains, harvesting rain, or drawing from a bore, you deserve to know what is in your drinking water. We provide the data, the context, and the professional clarity to make informed decisions.
